January 31 – February 1, 2011, Bangladesh Archives and Records Management Society (BARMS) organized the launching of the Bangladesh Train of Trainers Records Management programme, which is an e-learning programme developped in Moodle environment (open source). Place of action was National Archives Bangladesh in Dhaka. Official programme started at 10.00 with announcement of Lt. Col. Lutful Haq, welcome address by Professor Sharif uddin Ahmed and addresses by Torill Torlen (archivist Statistics Norway), Sigfried Janzing (director / achivist Regional Archives Gouda, Netherlands) and Florus Geraedts (director / archivist Leidschendam-Voorburg, Netherlands). At 11.30 the two days training programme started, conducted by Torill Torlen, Sigfried Janzing and Florus Geraedts which aimed to train a number of Bangladesh trainees to become trainers themselves. The Bangladesh project is closely linked to the Campaign for the Right to Information Act (CTRI). Twenty future trainers of different organizations (BRAC Bank Ltd., National Archives and Library, Dutch-Bangla Bank, BAPEX, Opsonin Pharma, Heritage Archives Rajshahi) participated in the two days programme. Important part of the launching of the TTRM was the introduction of the candidates themselves because with the introduction they were asked to formulate their training needs. This is essential to adapt the Moodle programme to Bangladesh Needs. The Bangladesh TTRM project is part of an international TTRM project of the International Council on Archives (ICA – Unesco), and is developped by Thijs Laeven (advisor and trainer) and Peter Horsman (researcher and lecturer at Department of Archives- and Library Sciences, University of Amsterdam, UVA). Topics of the two days session were furthermore an ARM outline, from teaching to learning, getting acquainted with Moodle, electronic recordkeeping etc. Important result was the creation of a forum by the candidates themselves (in facebook) to discuss and help each other with ARM related problems.
