Friday November 12, BARM created a partnership with the Department of History of Leiden University by linking to the ENCOMPASS-programme (Encountering a Common Past in Asia), hosted by the Department of History (since September 2006). ENCOMPASS aims at giving access to Asian students to the priceless sources left by the VOC (Dutch East India Company) and the source material left by the Dutch colonial authorities in the East Indies. See for more detailed information about ENCOMPASS the link: Encountering a Common Past in Asia. BARM already started with translations of original VOC-documents to the English language for historians in Bangladesh. In 1996 Florus Geraedts transferred some translated VOC-documents to professor dr. Ratan Lal Chakraborty of the History Department of Dhaka University. BARM – ENCOMPASS seems to be a perfect match to give a further boost to a higher quality of historical research in Bangladesh. Present at the Friday-meeting were Florus Geraedts and Sigfried Janzing of BARM, Azizul Russel, ENCOMPASS-student, and Charles Jeurgens, professor of history at Leiden University.
