On behalf of BARM mr. Florus Geraedts is trying to obtain expertise and part-time teachers from ICDDR,B (International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh), LISU department (Library and Information Services Unit), for the Bangladesh School for Archival Studies, giving training courses on Archives and Records Management. ICDDR,B, previously known locally as the Cholera Hospital, is now an international health research institution located in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. The trigger for asking ICDDR,B to cooperate is the enthousiasm of former head of LISU, mr. Talut Solaiman, for cooperation between ICDDR,B and BARM and the National Archives of Bangladesh. Mr. Geraedts and mr. Talut Solaiman met several times in LISU, in December 2006, January and June 2007 as well as January 2008. On one of those occasions BARM members also met Dr. Shamsul Islam Khan from ICDDR,B who was highly concerned about the care for the ICDDR,B’s archives and for that reason trying his best to help with starting a School for Archival Studies. Besides training the idea is that students in Archives and Records Management could possibly easily have internship in LISU departmet and they could learn much while working with LISU Staff.
