Developing information literacy skills a must for Digital Bangladesh

The Centre for Information Studies Bangladesh (CIS,B) and United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), Dhaka, jointly organised a two days training course on ‘Information Literacy and UN literacy’ for the students of Haji Md Ekhlas Uddin Bhuiyan School at Ekhlasnagar in Rupganj, Narayanganj (south of Dhaka). Kazi Ali Reza, head of UNIC-Dhaka, M. Moniruzzaman, principal librarian, UNIC-Dhaka, Dr. M. Mezbah-ul-Islam of Dhaka University and Minhaj Uddin Ahmed, Director of CIS,B conducted the course as resource persons. Mozammel Hoque Bhuiyan, president of the School Managing Committee distributed certificates among the trainees. Maruf-Sarmin Smrity Sangstha sponsored the training programme.

Information literacy skills are a pre-requisite for building a digital Bangladesh, speakers at a training course said on Saturday. Digital Bangladesh by 2021 became the corner stone of the Charter for Change, the election manifesto of Bangladesh Awami League for the 9th Parliamentary Election. The Digital Bangladesh vision is unique as it proposes to mainstream ICT as a pro-poor tool. BARM(S) is working closely with Muhammad Mezbah-ul-Islam, supporting his campaign on information literacy. Also, BARM(S) Train of Trainers Records Management programme, an e-learning tool in moodle, fits very well in the Digital Bangladesh – vision.
