1.       International Right to Know Day, 28 September

On the occasion of “International Right to Know Day” (RTKD), 28th of September, Friends of Archives of Bangladesh (FAB) arranged a seminar about “Right to Information” (RTI). Members of Bandhusova  and an association to save archeological sites participated in the programme. Muhammad Lutful Haq, advisor “Research and Archives” at the Daily Prothom Alo, presented a paper in the seminar. Besides, Hasan Kamrul, digital Archivist of the Daily Prothom Alo, and Azizul Rasel, historian and researcher of Prothom Alo, spoke in the seminar. “Right to know” is synonymous to “Right to Information”. RTKD is internationally observed since 2003. The aim is to raise awareness of every individual’s right to access to government held information and to know how elected officials are exercising power and how tax payers’ money is being spent. There are many examples in Bangladesh showing the failure of The RTI Act, thus the act has still to be implemented fully (it was passed by parliament in 2009). Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) from their side arranged information fairs at 45 districts to observe the Right To know Day 2013.
