December 22, the Municipal Archives of Rotterdam was the meetingpoint for professor dr. Md. Mahbubur Rahman (Mahabub) from Rajshahi University, Secretary of the BARM Society, with Dutch archivists. Present were dr. F.J. (Fred) van Kan (Chairman of the Royal Dutch Association of Archivists), Theo Schelhaas (Solidarity Foundation Heemstede), Sigfried Janzing, Yvonne Bos-Rops, René Spork, Florus Geraedts (BARM-members) and mrs. Tamara van Zwol (on behalf of the ASHA, BARM donor and on behalf of the Cultural Heritage Institution of the province of South-Holland). Professor Mahbubur was especially welcomed by mrs. J. Steenhuis, director of the Rotterdam Archives. We discussed the importance of the Right to Information Ordinance in Bangladesh and of course we talked about the training of archivists in Bangladesh. Good governance and cultural heritage are two angles to raise awareness for the need of keeping archives on a high level. The National Archives of Bangladesh is an important player in the field and in BARM Society. Prof. Mahbubur explained the important role of his Heritage Room in Rajshahi for the preservation of archives. Promotion will get a stimulus with the opening of the website of the Heritage Room wich is planned for March 2009. Mr. Van Kan, who is also a member of SPA/ICA, pointed the BARM Society’s attention to the importance of becoming member of SPA in the ICA. Mr. Van Kan  promised moral support from his association. Furthermore we discussed financial support of the Heritage Room. René Spork showed professor Mahbubur the Rotterdam Archives repository and in the evening we went all for a diner, wich for Mahbubur was “his last supper” for next day, December 23, he departed again to Bangladesh. We received message of Mahbubur of his good arrival in Bangla.
